Shown just before Finding Dory, this short is about a young bird on the beach who's a little afraid of the waves when they move quickly especially when it's trying to get something. Everything in this one looks so lifelike, for a while, I didn't think it was computer animated at all! Both funny and a little touching, the minutes seem to go by pretty quickly by the time it ends. Such a natural feel looking at all those birds' movements not to mention the ocean when it movies to and fro most of the time. The 3-D glasses I viewed this with may have been a plus, I don't know. Certainly, I was riveted throughout this short. Really, all I'll say now is Piper is another worthy Pixar short.

The title of this short film is Piper. In the short film Piper is a newborn bird that is very hungry and wants to learn how to get food.So Piper goes out to get food but she doesn't know how to and gets run over by the current.Piper keeps on trying but a current always comes and she always gets run over.
Our favorite parts are when Piper goes under water and sees all of the cool animals. Also when Piper goes underwater and gets a little bit wet. As well as when she finds the crabs because it is kind of funny. My opinion is that this is a great short film. We rate this nine out of ten stars. We recommend this for all ages but especially for 2nd through 4th grade. The theme is to keep on trying even when things get hard or when you are frustrated just like her but you will have to watch this to find out the ending.Piper is a determined bird that wants to get her food.
I would like to describe the animation into two words based on currently available technology: amazing rendition. The birds and the seaside look realistic. I find the environmental lighting surreal such that the whole scenery is picturesque enough for a photography enthusiast. The expressions on the faces of the characters bring humanity to the screen, and through the little bird - through the events of learning and of immersing oneself for the first time with something new and essential - the natural values of this humanity unfolded. It is amazing overall.
Although I have a complain with the realism of the story line given the realistic rendition; and of course, minus the generally accepted "poetic license" of giving the animals the near-human reactions, the events are too good to be true for a small bird. Perhaps this is the part where they want things to be surreal in order to deliver the ultimate message. However, may we not stretch the reality threshold a little much further for an animation with a realistic rendition such as this? Setting my complain aside, this is a memorable animation almost comparable to what "For the Birds" has achieved from the comical side of the spectrum.
